KINGDOM MMA MAYHEM vs. KALA RESCHEDULED TO APRIL 18TH

The Hawaiian DCCA (Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs) - the guys who regulate MMA in Hawaii - have a new rule that all pro fighters must get HEP/HIV test and physical clearance by a HAWAII doctor. Mayhem lives on the mainland, so he had his clearance done by a mainland doctor. DCCA said they would not let him fight with a mainland doctor's review.

What state in the US that regulates MMA or boxing mandates that fighters see local doctors if they want to fight in that state? I bet none. Only Hawaii has this odd rule.

The Good News..

Mayhem is still in Hawaii, so we are taking Mayhem to a local doctor now. And the Blaisdell had an opening on April 18th...so the event is delayed 2 weeks so that Mayhem can get approved with his updated local doctor clearance.

Matchmaker Patrick Freitas on the Latest Developments

TJay walks in to process our event and fighter applications at the State of Hawaii DCCA dept. All of our paperwork was in order...so we thought. Turns out the DCCA now requires ALL pro fighters to see LOCAL/HAWAII doctors for their HIV/Hep and physical exams! This is a ridiculous rule. Mayhem lives in L.A., so he naturally had his testing done where he lives. They said they wouldnt allow Mayhem to fight because he didnt see a Hawaii doctor.

Everyone...think about this. Does the State think promoters have the money to fly mainland, Japanese, Brazilian, and any foreign fighters all the way to Hawaii just to get medical exams? What state in the US requires this for MMA or boxing? I bet none! When UFC does a show in - say Ohio - do they fly every fighter into see Ohio doctors licensing? Heck no!

This rule MUST BE CHANGED.

Vitale vs Suda would've NEVER happened if this same rule was in effect back then! There's no way we would've flown Suda all the way from Japan just to see a doctor and then fly him home...and then fly him back to fight Niko and fly him home again. Money doesn't grow on trees in our yards.

Now let me say this too: TJay and I have over 10+ years of working beautifully with the DCCA. Most the guys and gals in there are GREAT people who we consider friends. It's not necessarily the staff's fault that this rule is in effect. But someone at the admin level made a mistake in writing this rule this way. And the person who authored this rule needs to show courage and humility by making the correction.

The simple solution? Just make it such that all pros have to see a licensed physician...no matter where that physician is. The main thing is that the physician is LICENSED already, so the DCCA shouldnt have to worry that its a quack doctor. And if the DCCA thinks a promoter is making up imaginary doctors on the mainland all they gotta do is check the physician's license the promoter submitted. If the promoter lied, then never let him promote again. And if it was the fighter who lied, then never let him fight again. Its so simple.

So here's the good news...

Mayhem is still in Hawaii from the press conference so TJay took him to a local doctor today to start his examinations. The event is now delayed just 2 weeks. Blaisdell had an opening - i think - on April 18.

More good news...

I had one or two unmatched fighters and simply ran out of time getting them opponents. Now I can fill out the card.

Also...

The fights we've already matched are still solid. These bouts will stay as they are. Fighters now get 2 more weeks to prepare.

Sorry to everyone...but please understand that we did what we could. This DCCA rule of making ALL pro fighters see Hawaii doctors is not well thought out. It just makes it too hard for the local small business promoter to conduct his operations.

THANKS AND SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.

“MAYHEM” MILLER vs. KALA KALOHE TO HEADLINE APRIL 18th EVENT!

April 3rd (rescheduled to April 18th) will mark the return of World Class mixed martial arts to the Blaisdell Arena.  “I started MMA in Hawaii when nobody gave it a chance.  I am more excited today about KINGDOM than I was in the early years about Super Brawl.”  said T.Jay Thompson, Founder Super Brawl/ICON Sport/KINGDOM mma.  “We will hold the inaugural event on Friday, April 3rd (rescheduled to April 18th).

ICON Sport champion Kala Kolohe is eager to prove he is the deserving 185lb Champion in the KINGDOM as he prepares to take on super-star Jason “Mayhem” Miller.  “I have already been having dreams of fighting Mr. Miller.  He was a great champion.  But he gained his fame from the Hawaiian fans and then turned his back on us.  He better be ready for a war  .....Hawaiian style!”  stated Kala Kalohe.

Mayhem has his own take on things.  “Did he really say that about me?  Does he remember how I dismantled the other Hawaiian fighters when they put me down.  Maybe he should talk to Egan Inoue or Ron Jhun or Niko Vitale or Mark  Moreno?  He wants to make me out to be the bad guy?  Fine.  Bring it Kala.”

T.Jay Thompson's Kingdom MMA organization will mark a new era in Hawaii sport fighting. One that builds on the rich traditions of  past incarnations such as Super Brawl and ICON Sport.

Tickets will go on sale for KINGDOM MMA on Saturday, February 21st at the Blaisdell Box office, Ticketmaster.com and all other Ticketmaster locations.  Prices will range from $15 to $150.
